Do dreams come true? Just ask JoDee Neathery whose life-long passion to become a published author came full circle with her debut literary novel, Life in a Box, released July 2017.
“My Nana always said the more hurdles you leap over, the more you appreciate the roadblocks. When I typed – The End – to my first novel, the emotion of the accomplishment was overwhelming, fueling the fire to create another work of literary fiction with A Kind of Hush following in July 2021 and my third, Dust in the Wind, a work in progress.”
About me
MY BIOGRAPHY
JoDee Neathery, born in Southern California, moved with her family at age five to her dad’s home state of Texas, residing in Midland. After graduating high school, she began a career in the banking industry then moving into public relations executive recruiting for agencies in Dallas and New York. After her husband retired, they relocated to a lake/golf course community where she had more opportunities to write, handling publicity for the women’s club, creating installation ceremony scripts, and becoming a charter member of the local book club, writing reviews and minutes on behalf of their ninety-plus members. “These ladies believed in me before I did, and without their encouragement, prodding and cheerleading, my dreams of writing a novel would still be a flight of fancy.”
JoDee and husband Mickey live near their only daughter, son-in-law, two grandsons, and a bevy of animals. Alongside her book club responsibilities, she enjoys a byline in a local newspaper – Back Porch Musings, a lighthearted look at life – and loves to share her journey to anyone with a dream.
Her debut award-winning novel, Life in a Box, explores the question: What are you willing to sacrifice to keep a secret? She drew inspiration from her own family, using real-life influences to shape a work of fiction filled with colorful characters and dramatic twists.
The concept for her latest novel, A Kind of Hush, came to her unexpectedly one night. The image of a young boy and a few notes hastily written on a bedside notepad inspired the novel. “I didn’t know the full story then, but I knew this boy would play a pivotal role—and Gabriel Edward Mackie delivers.”
JoDee is currently in the writing process of her third literary novel, Dust in the Wind, set in Paris, France, Heidelberg, Germany, and a fictional town in the Texas Hill Country. “The characters are rich with unforgettable personalities; the story is rewarding; the emotion is raw; the ending will stay with you.”

I aspire to create narratives that profoundly connect with readers, intertwining the complicated layers of human emotion with riveting stories. My writing looks into the ambiguous spaces of life, where morality often becomes murky, encouraging readers to contemplate their journeys and fostering empathy and insight.

In life the line between fact and fiction is often opaque and if readers are challenged to reflect on their own lives, they are rewarded with emotional and riveting experiences that encourage meaningful conversations.”
My Goal
“My goal is for readers to step inside the narrative, not just read the words…and find a common ground by which to relate to the character’s strengths and weaknesses. When the final page is turned, if readers are satisfied the novelist left a piece of themselves in the work, the author has done a good job sparking curiosity and fostering discussions certain to leave a lasting impression.”

I will never stop learning the craft, especially from these two stalwarts of the literary landscape, and will aspire to deliver worthy tales, often drawing on personal experiences to add depth to the plot.”
